Sustainability and circularity
Our products are sustainable, healthy, and 100% natural. We operate according to an, circular production process that makes optimal use of every raw material. Residual streams are repurposed sustainably — for example, as biofuel or biogas.
We apply advanced production techniques, use renewable energy sources, and purify all our process water on-site. Our factory is one of the most modern and sustainable in the industry. We continuously invest in optimizing our processes and reducing our environmental impact.
Our history
One hundred years of collagen valorization
For almost a century, Trobas has been dedicated to the valorization of collagen containing raw materials. Founded in 1927, the company has grown over four generations into a modern, internationally operating producer of food ingredients.
1927
The founding
Establishment of Lijmfabriek C. Trommelen in the centre of Dongen. Production of collagen-based glue from by-products of the local leather industry begins using traditional methods.
1943
Destroyed and rebuilt
During the Second World War, the factory in the center of Dongen was largely destroyed by fire. In the years after the war, the factory was rebuilt and further expanded.
1978
Moved and renewed
The company is moving to the Tichelrijt industrial estate on the outskirts of Dongen. A completely new factory with its own water treatment plant is being built there.
1982
A new name
Introduction of the new company name, Trobas, reflecting the company’s increasingly international character.
1997
Step to food and pharma
Trobas starts producing edible and pharmaceutical gelatin, thereby entering the food ingredients market.
From 2013
Growth in production
Expansion of production capacity for edible gelatine with a second production line.
2019
New lab and office
Modernisation of the production site in Dongen with a new state-of-the-art laboratory and office.
2023
New warehouse
Trobas operates from a new warehouse.
2024
Receiving the Ecovadis medal
EcoVadis rewards Trobas with a bronze medal for its sustainable business operations and processes.
2025
Production Collagen Peptides
Expansion of production with a new production line for Collagen Peptides.
